'Making Mental Health and Wellbeing a Global Priority'

The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October every year. This year’s 2022 theme, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is 'Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority'.

Did you know that 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. Mental Health problems exist in our everyday lives, impacting families, workplaces, and communities. The important awareness day advocates for mental-health related issues and aims to tackle the stigma that limits peoples’ willingness to seek help. Because of the stigma and misconceptions surrounding mental health, people often suffer in silence, with feelings of shame and embarrassment around getting treatment or help. A recent study in June 2022 revealed that nearly two-thirds of employees do not feel comfortable talking about Mental Health with their colleagues. Organisations need to be doing more to support their teams whilst creating conversation around mental health to show how important it is to talk and get help if you are struggling.

Mental Health Awareness is an important social movement to improve understanding of mental health conditions and increase access to healthcare for those who need it. According to ‘Our World in Data 2018’, 970 million people worldwide have a mental health or substance abuse disorder. This significant day provides a voice for people who experience inequality. It gives people the opportunity to come together to recognize progress in this field, and to be vocal about what we need to do to ensure Mental Health & Well-Being becomes a Global Priority for all.

A training session Wellity offers around this significant topic is 'Mental Health - Becoming an ACE Employee'. This session explores 3 key areas:
