In its 2019-20 report, the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) revealed some worrying results regarding mental health at work. According to its research, 51% of cases of new and long-standing work-related ill health were due to stress, depression or anxiety. This had a huge impact on business as it resulted in the loss of 17.9 million working days.
Published in June 2021, ISO 45003 is a set of guidelines for managing psychosocial risks in the workplace. It was put together by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) as a result of increased research on the negative impact of psychosocial risks on workers.
It was developed so that organisations of all sizes can implement processes that aim to protect their workers from psychological hazards and to provide them with support for their mental health and well-being. This will help more workplaces build a positive working environment that improves organisational resilience and enhances productivity and staff retention.
